Getting Started on the Interior
  • Remember that the earlier you start, the better the result. Contact a retailer, manufacturer or designer as soon as possible.
  • Don't be afraid to get more than one quote, but always try to compare "apples with apples". Once you have decided on a particular fabric with your first quote, specify the same fabric and style in your next one. This will enable you to see who is giving best value. If you then decide to change your fabric decision, stick with the decision on supplier - they will reward your loyalty.
  • Don't ever be limited by 'Free Make' offers - you are always paying for the making somewhere in your quote, whether in finish, fabric price or quality. Always look at the bottom line, including tracks and installation. Jan Lambert Design will always endeavour to meet or beat any other quote in identical components.
  • It is always helpful to have some initial preferences in mind, e.g. plain, striped or patterned fabrics; shiny or matt finish, bright, subdued or natural colours.
Time Frames
  • It can take a surprisingly long time to complete the process from start to finish. Typically, most designers and manufacturers quote 4 to 5 weeks from confirmation to installation of custom-made curtains and blinds. You can reduce the time frame by starting as early as possible.
  • If you need an urgent solution for privacy, Jan Lambert Design has a unique service - we have sets of curtains and blinds available on loan until your new ones are completed.

What about Ready-Made Curtains?  Ready-Mades are available from a range of budget outlets. They provide an instant privacy solution. However, remember the golden rule of buying - you get what you pay for. Ready-Mades are cheap because they are usually manufactured in cheap fabrics with a very thin thermal coating. The coatings break down over time and the curtains become limp and saggy. There is a vast difference between a cheap, ready-made thermal and a quality thermal-coated fabric that is usually only available for custom manufacture.
